Beautiful China Promoted in Bangkok
On the evening of July 6, local time, Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand, celebrated the Night of Chinese Tourism of 2017. The event was organized by CNTA and co-sponsored by Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports and Chinese embassy in Thailand. It attracted an audience of more than 200, including Zhang Xilong, head of the Chinese tourism delegation, Thai Minister for Tourism and Sports Mrs. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Chinese counselor Lan Suhong, deputy governor of Tourism Authority of Thailand Mrs. Srisuda Wanapinyosak, and president of Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA) Mr. Suparerk Soorangura, as well as representatives of industry associations, travel agents and airline companies. They exchanged views with over 30 business insiders from 10 Chinese provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government) including Tianjin, Shaanxi, Guizhou and Tibet.
The year of 2017 is designated as the Year of China-ASEAN Tourism Cooperation. To lure more tourists from Southeast Asia, CNTA has been actively promoting Beautiful China - Silk Road Tourism. Thailand is one of the top 15 inbound tourism markets for China. In recent years, China as a tourist destination has received growing attention from Thailand and the number of Thai tourists has been steadily increasing.
According to Zhang Xilong, Thailand is one of the first outbound tourist destinations for Chinese tourists and a major tourist source and destination along the Belt and Road. “In 2016, the two-way visits between China and Thailand approximated 10 million, and the growth momentum was strong, giving us much confidence in bilateral tourism exchange.” “At the G20 Summit in Hangzhou in 2016, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha reached consensus on how to expand bilateral cooperation in economic and trade, tourism and infrastructure areas. China has made unprecedented improvements to its travel environment and we welcome more Thai tourists to visit China. We have the confidence to show every one of you a beautiful China beyond your imagination,” said Zhang.
Mrs. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul welcomed the Chinese tourism delegation. She noted, “Every Thai citizen cherishes the dream of visiting China someday. I’m deeply impressed by China’s beautiful scenery and huge progress in her travel environment as shown in the promotional video. I believe more Thai people will visit China.” She added, “For Thailand-China tourism cooperation, what matters more than the number of visitors is the quality of tourist services. The success of the tourism industry lies with sharing and reciprocity. Tourism cooperation serves as the bridge between Thailand and China and drives our friendly ties and common prosperity.”
Counselor Lan Suhong pointed out tourism exchange as a highlight of China-Thailand strategic cooperation. “Within the framework of China-ASEAN Tourism Cooperation Year, I believe that the joint efforts of Chinese and Thai tourism professionals will develop and produce more tourism products and reveal more potential of bilateral tourism development.” She believed that tourism would enhance mutual understanding between the two countries and play a bigger role in future strategic cooperation.
This event took place soon after China National Tourist Office was opened in Bangkok. It hired marketing specialists to make a professional presentation themed on Beautiful China. The high-definition video and PPT prepared fully showcased the beauty of China and won applause for its elegant style. They were sought after by many excited travel agents and media.
On the afternoon, the Chinese tourism delegation held business talks with TTAA members. Thai business insiders agreed that the event was meaningful and looked forward to more similar activities. General manager Chen Shaowei of Chengxing Travel Agency in Thailand said, “China's boutique travel routes are amazing. We’ll seize the opportunity to roll out new products.” Chairman of Shunchang Travel Agency in Thailand Lin Weiyuan said, “The business talks are very fruitful. I’ve made some friends and learnt about the diversity of Chinese tourism products, opening my mind for doing business.”
The ethnic performance given by artists from Guizhou aroused strong emotional resonance from the audience and the climax came along with the generous gifts distributed by exhibitors.
Earlier on the morning, the Chinese tourism delegation and heads of the commission for tourism development from five Chinese provinces and autonomous regions visited Minister Mrs. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Deputy Minister Mrs. Chavanee Tongroach and relevant officials, briefing them on the background and objectives of the promotional event. Later, Chinese ambassador Ning Fukui received some members of the Chinese delegation and they exchanged views on how to explore the bilateral tourism market, promote civilized tourism and handle emergencies, etc.
