The 13th Strait Travel Fair Held in Xiamen
In this amazing season of May, the 13th Strait Travel Fair (“2017 STF” hereinafter) jointly organized by the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) and Fujian Provincial Government was held in Xiamen between May 12 and 14. Those attending the opening ceremony and pressing the “Project Launch” button included CNTA Vice Chairman and Executive President of the Association for Tourism Exchange Across the Taiwan Straits (ATETS) Li Shihong, Vice Governor of Fujian Li Dejin, Honorary President of the Taiwan Visitors Association Lai Sezhen, Chairman of the Travel Quality Assurance Association of Taiwan Xu Jinrui.
At the beginning of his speech, Li Shihong, on behalf of CNTA Chairman Li Jinzao and CNTA, expressed warm welcome to all guests present at the fair. Since the 1st Strait Travel Fair organized in 2005, it has seen 12 successful sessions. With its scale, scope and influence increasingly expanding, it has become an important platform for tourism industries across the straits to share information and resources and promote the development of tourism market, playing a positive and special role in deepening tourism exchanges and cooperation between the two sides. Tourism helps to strengthen the friendship between people across the straits, improve their wellbeing, and enhance their cooperation in multiple fields. The more complex and tense the relationship across the straits is becoming, the stronger we shall believe that our relationship will become. In the next step, we fill focus on deepening our cooperation in tourism industry to bring in new drivers for tourism exchanges across the straits, on diversifying tourism products to meet demands for high-quality and customized tourism consumption of people of the two sides, and on improving tourism quality to create an orderly and regulated market environment. Meanwhile, CNTA will pledge full support to Fujian Province as it gives full play to its unique tourism resources and advantages in geographical location that is close to Taiwan, with the aim of building the brands of “Dreamland in Fujian” and “Cross-Straits Tourism” and improving Fujian-Taiwan tourism exchanges and cooperation in an all-around way.
In her speech, Lai Sezhen spoke highly of 2017 STF for its expanding scale, widened market scope, fanstastic content and impressive achievements. The Jinmen Pavilion, as usual, displayed its featured souvenirs favored by people from the Chinese mainland. What’s more, it was the first time that the exchange meeting among renowned tour guides from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan was held in the Jinmen Pavilion, which undoubtedly will introduce a brand new driver for tourism in Jinmen. Tourism serves as a messenger of peace, a useful tool to help alleviate poverty and balance the gap between rural and urban areas, and an important vehicle for the Chinese mainland to implement the Belt and Road Initiative and realize regional cooperation.
It is learned that the 2017 STF gives priority to exchanges across the straits, improving trade level, deepening industrial cooperation and providing a wide range of supporting activities. With the theme of “integrated development and cooperation for win-win results”, it will organize Cross-Straits Countryside Tourism Forum, “Dreamland in Fujian” Night Promotion Conference, and other brillant programs. With 2,000 booths in about 50,000-square-meter exhibition area, a year-on-year increase of 51%, it is estimated that the 2017 STF will receive 150,000-200,000 visitors, 100,000 businessmen, and a total of 37 overseas exhibitors, reaching a new high in its history.
After the opening ceremony, the leaders and guests were shown around the fair. Taking this chance, Li Shihong met major representatives from Taiwan and exchanged views with them on how to further enhance tourism cooperation between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
