“Beautiful China” a Highlight at MITF 2017
From March 11 to 13, the 12th Moscow International Travel Fair (MITF) was staged at the Crocus Expo International Exhibition Centre in Moscow, attracting 43 Chinese exhibitors representing tourism administrations, travel agencies and airline companies from 13 Chinese provinces (regions and municipalities) such as Hunan, Hainan, Guangxi, Shandong, Hebei, Inner Mongolia and Tibet, the most in recent years. The MITF is the most influential travel fair in the Commonwealth of Independent States and this year it attracted international exhibitors from 93 countries and local exhibitors in Russia. Russian deputy prime minister Vitaly Mutko and head of Russian Federal Agency for Tourism Oleg Safonov attended the opening ceremony and visited the Chinese booth. Tourism heads from Russian federal subjects and countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States also visited the Chinese booth and spoke highly of the design, setup and event planning.
The Chinese booth, located at the heart of the venue, was the biggest exhibition booth by country at the MITF 2017. The design was inspired by the traditional Chinese pattern of “round heaven and square earth”. Right above it was a cylindrical screen airing the promotional video of “Beautiful China”, especially about the 2017 Silk Road Tourism Year. The slogan “China - Beyond Your Imagination” was launched at the event. Videos about tourist attractions in China were aired too on e-screens at the booth. The CNTA office in Moscow prepared Chinese food and cocktail, and staged tea ceremonies, lion dances, martial arts performances and lucky draw to entertain the crowd. Chinese exhibitors gave out brochures, hosted promotional events and used live streaming tools to promote Chinese tourism brands and products including the Silk Road, the Tea Road, Red Tours and sunshine Hainan, etc.
At the three-day event, the Chinese delegation was expected to attract over 50,000 visitors and gave out over 40,000 copies of brochures. It also made to the headlines of People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency, China Radio International, China News Service, people.cn, Phoenix TV, and 1 TV and Moscow Capital TV.
The number of Chinese visitors in Russia and that of Russian visitors in China have been rapidly growing since 2016, an exciting result of bilateral tourism cooperation. And the numbers still have vast room for growth thanks to the complementary tourism resources in both countries. Chinese and Russian tourism administrations are working hard to launch marketing activities targeting at each other’s tourists, improve the cooperation mechanism, facilitate the construction of the China-Russia tourist service system, better the quality of tourist services and truly benefit Chinese and Russia visitors.
